To embark on this delightful cold process rosemary soap bar recipe, make sure you have your essential soap making supplies at the ready.


Ingredient list

  • 64gr lye (not lyewater)

  • 115gr water

  • 1 table spoon sodium lactate

  • 5gr cambrian blue clay

  • 140gr coconut oil

  • 25gr shea butter

  • 75gr sunflower oil

  • 25gr castor oil

  • finely chopped rosemary(to your liking)

  • 10ml rosemary essential oil

  • optional: 14 rosemary tops for decoration


1. Start by making your lye solution. Pour 115 grams of water into a lye-safe container. Slowly add 64 grams of lye, stirring well. Set it aside to cool.


2. While the lye solution is cooling, melt your hard oils. Place coconut oil and shea butter in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on low temperature in the microwave, stirring occasionally. Once melted, add the soft oils to the same bowl and let it cool.


3. In a separate cup, mix a small amount of the oil mixture with 5 grams of Cambrian Blue Clay, stirring until well incorporated. Set it aside for later.


4. Prepare your fragrance and finely chop fresh rosemary, as much as desired. Set them both aside. optional: you can also get 14 rosemary tops for decoration.


5. Check the temperature of both the oil mixture and the lye solution. Once they are around 38-42 degrees Celsius, combine them. Use a sieve to pour the lye into the oil mixture.


6. Add the essential oil, Cambrian Blue Clay mixture, a spoonful of sodium lactate, and the finely chopped rosemary into the mixture. Use a stick blender to blend until the cold process soap trace, which is the point where the soap starts to thicken.


7. Pour the soap mixture into a soap loaf mold and use a spoon to create texture on the top. Optionally, place rosemary tops for decoration. Wrap the mold in parchment paper and keep it in a dark, cool closet for 24 hours.


8. After 24 hours, remove the soap loaf from the mold and cut it into 14 pieces. Allow the soap bars to cure for 4 to 6 weeks before using. Enjoy your handmade soap bars!
