This recipe provides step-by-step instructions on how to make a refreshing cold process cucumber soap bar. The soap incorporates the cooling properties of cucumber to create a soothing and nourishing bathing experience.

To embark on this delightful cold process cucumber soap bar recipe, make sure you have your essential soap making supplies at the ready.

Ingredient list

  • 85gr of unpeeled cucumber

  • 200gr and 56gr of water(256 total, but used separately)

  • 108gr lye (NOT lye water)

  • 5gr green mica powder

  • 1 spoon of sodium lactate

  • 340gr olive oil

  • 227gr coconut oil

  • 113gr almond oil

  • 57gr argan oil

  • 57gr shea butter

  • optional: 10ml of cucumber fragrance oil

Step 1: Start by preparing the cucumber. Take an cucumber weighing 85 grams and peel it. Then, cut it into small pieces and place it in a clean bowl.

Step 2: Add 56 grams of water to the bowl with the cucumber. Use a stick blender to blend the cucumber and water until it becomes a fine puree.

Step 3: Take a sift and strain only the cucumber water into a container that is safe for lye. Make sure to get rid of any solids left in the sift.

Step 4: Add the remaining 200 grams of water to the cucumber water in the container. Slowly add 108 grams of lye to the mixture, stirring well. Set it aside to cool down.

Step 5: While the lye mixture is cooling, measure out the hard oils and soft oils for your soap. Put the shea butter and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl and melt them in the microwave at a low temperature. Stir occasionally.

Step 6: Once the hard oils are fully melted, add the soft oils to the melted mixture. Take a cup and add some of the oil mixture along with your chosen mica coloring. Mix it well and set it aside for later use.

Step 7: OPTIONAL: Get the cucumber fragrance oil to enhance the scent. Keep it next to the mica coloring mixture for easy access.

Step 8: Check the temperature of both the lye mixture and the oil mixture. If they are both around 38 to 42 degrees Celsius, you can combine them in the same bowl. To add the lye water to the oils, use a small sift, especially if you have added cucumber to the lye like with this recipe.

Step 9: Add a tablespoon of sodium lactate to the mixture, along with your fragrance oil if you choose to use that(not the mica mix!!). Use a stick blender to combine the ingredients, being careful not to overmix, just mix until combined.

Step 10: Divide the mixture into two bowls. Mix one part until it reaches the cold process trace, which is the point where the soap starts to thicken.

Step 11: Add the mica mix to the other half of the soap mixture and mix until it reaches the trace. This will create a contrast of light and dark colors.

Step 12: Pour the soap into a soap loaf mold, alternating between the light and dark mixture in small sections. Use a spoon to create some texture on the top of the soap. Wrap the mold with parchment paper and keep it in a cold, dark closet for 24 hours to set.

Step 13: After 24 hours, remove the soap from the mold and cut it into bars. However, remember that the soap bars need to cure for an additional 4 to 6 weeks before they are ready for use.
